A cup of Candid with The Business Den: Harshendu S Giri, Founder of Cafe 1730, Pune shares with us his way of life and what it takes to run a successful restaurant business

What inspires you to get to work each day? 

My work inspires me to get going every day. I love what I do and hence, every day is a new day. I look forward to heading to the restaurant each day and give my best.

What do you work toward in your free time? 

Since I run a restaurant business, I usually do not get much of free time. But yes, whenever I do get some time at leisure, I give it all to my family.

Who are you inspired by and why? 

Everything around me inspires me in one way or the other. It’s not necessary to be inspired by a person or thing. Experiences also inspire you. And I learn a lot from my everyday happenings.

To what do you most attribute your success? What would you say are the five key elements for starting and running a successful business?

To run a business and make it successful, you need to hire the right people in the right roles. When I started my restaurant, I had little idea about what it takes to run it. But soon, I realized that it wasn’t as easy as I thought it was. We need to serve/ provide services that people are looking for. And hence, we need to not only offer innovative services, but also must be capable to live up to our customer’s expectations.

What do you feel is the major difference between entrepreneurs and those who work for someone else? 

I feel there is not much a difference between these two. We all work for a reason and when we work together, our target should be one. Some work towards building their empire out of passion, while others work in roles that support their passion. The dedication is the same. The only one difference between these two is when you become an entrepreneur, your responsibility and risks increase.

Lastly, share with us one thing that not many people know about you. 

There are many things that people don’t know about me. But I like it this way. I usually don’t want people to know much about me.
