Probe police attack on journalists in Amaravati

Based on reports reaching here, the Mumbai Press Club demands an impartial inquiry into the arrest of Prashant Kamble, an award winning journalist, and Abhijit Tiwari, a local scribe.

The two have alleged that they were beaten and arrested while reporting a suicide of a local girl in Chandur Railway in Amravati district early this week.

The Amravati Union Of Working Journalists has petitioned the district police and state government in this case and demanded that cases against both journalists be withdrawn immediately because they were doing their job and did not disturb law and order.

Mumbai Press Club reiterates its resolve for protecting journalists and appeals to the state government to ensure a free and fair inquiry in the case.

When asked, Amaravati SP Abhinash Kumar told Mumbai Press Club on Tuesday that he would direct his additional SP to record statements of victims immediately.
